Powdery Alligator-flag Thalia dealbata is a tall (3’ – 8’) tropical, aquatic perennial, herbaceous plant found mostly in Southwestern Louisiana at the margins of swamp forests, ponds, and in ditches. The leaves and other parts of the plant are covered with a white powdery coating. Small purple flowers appear May – October above the leaves on tall flower stalks.
Powdery Alligator-flag thrives in part shade and shallow water, poorly drained soils, and mud; it is salt tolerant. It makes a dramatic, tropical-looking addition for landscaping wetland or water gardens, bogs, or ponds.
