Florida Anisetree Illicium floridanum is an evergreen native shrub (7′ X 6′) with aromatic, lance-shaped leaves that occurs in moist wooded ravines, seepage areas, and swamp margins of the Florida Parishes in Louisiana. Reddish-orange, star-shaped flowers appear March – June.
It thrives in part shade and moist, well-drained, loamy soils. Florida Anisetree spreads slowly by root shoots. Use it in the understory of a naturalized woodland landscape with lots of shade and rich, moist, but well-drained soils.
