Hands-On Workshop: Invasive Plant Removal – Arnaudville

Do you want to learn more about invasive plants, how to rid your property of these pests, and help to increase the plant diversity of Teche Woods? Join Acadiana Native Plant Project on Sunday, November 12 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the ANPP greenhouse (1046 Main Highway, Arnaudville 70512). General information about invasive plants, the threats they pose to our native flora and fauna, and the goal for improving habitat in Teche Woods by managing the invasive plants there will be given. A brief demonstration will follow to illustrate the different methods you can use to control invasive plants on your property. Teams (composed of 3 – 5 persons each) will be formed from those wishing to get some hands-on-experience with these management methods. During the time remaining, members of these teams will walk through Teche Woods and remove the Chinese Privet (Ligustrum sinense). Please wear appropriate clothes (long pants, long-sleeve shirt, hat) for walking through the woods and working in thick brush. Please also take with you leather gloves and loppers or a sharp hand saw for cutting through woody stems, if you have them. ANPP will provide water and refreshments for participants.
