Carolina Rose Rosa carolina is a perennial, deciduous shrub (3’ X 6’) that blooms May – July with a display of fragrant, pink flowers. The fruit or hip turns from dark green to bright red as it ripens. Within the state Carolina Rose occurs in dry prairies, sandy open woods, and disturbed areas such as roadsides and pastures of the Florida Parishes and the parishes of North Louisiana. It thrives in full sun to part shade and dry to wet, slightly acid soils. Carolina Rose attracts birds and is important for bumble bees and other native bees as a source of pollen, nesting materials, and structure.
