Fetterbush Lyonia Lyonia lucida is an evergreen shrub (3’ – 6’ tall) with glossy-green, leathery leaves that occurs naturally in the low wet woods, pocosins, shrub-tree bogs and bays, and savannahs of the Florida Parishes and in west-central Louisiana. Urn-shaped, pinkish-white flowers appear March – May before the new year’s growth. Fetterbush Lyonia tolerates seasonal flooding, but under cultivation, heavy watering may bring on leaf spot and weaken plants. For best landscaping results, place this species in shade to part-shade areas with moist, well-drained, acidic soils.
